A look at some of the most popular throat sweets

You might think that the sweets and other confectionery that we stock and sell for wholesale prices here at Shorters Club (http://www.shortersclub.co.uk) are merely of the ‘treat’ kind, appealing to kids and their nostalgic parents, but not too many other people. Well, that’s where you would be wrong, because who has not had a cold, sore throat or even a nasty bout of flu for which certain sweets come in useful?

That’s right, we’re referring to throat sweets that help to clear blocked noses and alleviate those sniffles, at a time of year when such illnesses are becoming all the more common. So without further a-do, here are just some of the old favourites that we stock:

Tunes – these boiled sweets come in lozenge form and have long been renowned for their anti-congestant properties – you may even remember the famous advertising campaign featuring actor Peter Cleall and the slogan, “Tunes help you breathe more easily”. Here at Shorters Club, we offer suitably invigorating and tasty cherry flavour menthol Tunes with real fruit juice and sweeteners.

Halls – this brand of hard boiled sweets can trace its history back to the foundation of the business by the Hall siblings in 1893, with Halls Mentholyptus having first been manufactured in 1927. Today, it’s the world’s leading sugar confectionery brand, and that is certainly reflected in our own range, with that famous ‘vapour action’ being available in such flavours as blackcurrant and cherry.

Halls Soothers – these are delicious sweets with a refreshing and soothing liquid centre. Choose from flavours like blackberry, cherry, strawberry and peach & raspberry, with a pack of 20 x 45g packets being available directly from us.

Lockets – who doesn’t still love Lockets? They’re those highly familiar and trusted medicated lozenges with no artificial colours and flavours, but one thing that they do definitely have is that real honey soothing liquid centre that has long assisted Brits through their sore throats and winter colds. You can get them in flavours like honey & lemon and cranberry & blueberry, with the best news of all being that you can buy packs of 20 x 45g packets here at Shorters Club.

Fisherman’s Friend – throat sweets don’t come much more powerful than these iconic menthol eucalyptus lozenges, which were first developed in 1865 to relieve the respiratory problems of fishermen working in the extreme environments of Icelandic deep-sea fishing grounds. They may now be a household name and available in a range of flavours, but don’t underestimate their invigorating properties. Buy a pack of 24 x 25g Fisherman’s Friends in Original Extra Strong or Cherry Low Sugar flavours on your next visit to Shorters Club.
