Never underestimate the importance of smoke vent systems

Regular readers of the blog here at UK-FP.co.uk (http://www.uk-fp.co.uk/index.asp) will know that we stop at nothing to emphasise the importance of having the right fire alarms installed at your residential or business property – for both moral and legal reasons. Anyone who has ever witnessed a fire outbreak will know something about how rapidly it can spread, but did you know that smoke not only kills more people than fire, but also does so faster?

That’s one reason, of course, why smoke alarms have the name they do, as they detect even the faintest hint of rising smoke as early as possible. However, it’s not just equipment that is now designed with the highest fire safety standards firmly in mind, but also buildings, with smoke ventilation being one of the most carefully considered factors. Houses and other public buildings have therefore been fitted in recent times with suitable Automatic Opening Vent, or AOV systems.

AOV systems are fitted to provide control over the levels of smoke and clean air in a room, in the event that fire does break out. It is usually necessary to install one in any room, stairwell or landing that lacks an external wall, as these are the parts of a building that need a vent or duct through which smoke is free to ventilate. Smoke vent law exists to ensure that buildings in which people live and work have proper ventilation and have been designed to meet the highest levels of fire safety standards.

Here at UK-FP.co.uk, we stock a selection of great quality smoke vent systems to help you to meet your obligations for your own building. Products on sale include the single zone AOV panel, which provides control over 24vdc electric window actuators and can be used with any other equipment that cannot close without reverse voltage. The Control Unit is of a modular design and can be interfaced with any conventional or addressable Fire Alarm Panel and other Building Management Systems. You can also use it as a standalone product alongside single or multiple smoke detectors and/or break glass units.

The single zone AOV panel is joined in this category of fire products by the actuators themselves, in addition to the call points and AOV detector and mounting base. Taken together, these items provide a robust means of protection against the toxic effects of smoke in any workplace in which fire may break out.
